What are the benefits of this project?

  • Reduce the plant’s carbon footprint, which will equate to an 11.5 tonnes reduction in carbon emissions
  • Generate 26,500 kWh (kilowatt hours) per year of electricity, which will lead to a significant reduction in the demand for imported electricity at the site
  • Boost the resilience of the plant by ensuring a continuous supply of energy in the case of power outages
  • Reduce greenhouse gas emissions and increase energy efficiency at the plant

What is involved as part of this project?

  1. Constructed the 180 square metres solar array in the northern part of the wastewater treatment plant, with this location selected to optimise the production of electricity
  2. Installation of 112 photovoltaic (PV) solar panels to generate clean, renewable electricity for the plant
  3. All construction works were undertaken within the boundary of the site to minimise disruptions to residents of the surrounding area
