Water conservation
By using only what we need, we can all play our part in safeguarding our water for our future.
Conserve water
Water covers 71% of the planet but only 1% is available to us as drinking water. We share this precious resource with every animal and plant on Earth as well as using it every day in our homes and businesses. Although there is enough annual rainfall in Ireland, we are limited in how much water we can take from the environment. By using only what we need, we can all play our part in safeguarding our water for our future.
Reducing Leaks
Much of our drinking water is lost through leaks before it ever reaches your tap. We're working to conserve our water by reducing the high levels of leakage across the country.
Household Water Conservation Charge
The Household Water Conservation Charge or Excess Use Charge is the consumption of water services above the threshold amount set by the Minister in accordance with the Water Services Act 2017. It is intended to promote conservation and personal responsibility for water use and to help Ireland meet the requirements of the Water Framework Directive.
