Stradbally Water Mains Replacement
National Leakage Reduction Programme
Irish Water, in partnership with Laois County Council, is replacing problematic water mains in Stradbally Co. Laois to provide a more reliable water supply and reduce high levels of leakage.
The works involve the replacement of over 2km of problematic water mains with new modern pipes. The programme to replace the water mains in Stradbally, Co. Laois will commence in late-August 2022. These works are being carried out as part of Irish Water’s National Leakage Reduction Programme.
The section of works will take place southeast of Stradbally village along the L7835, from its junction at Aughamaddock to the N80 Road. From there works will continue east before heading southbound along Kylebeg Road, finishing adjacent to Oakvale graveyard.
The works will be carried out on behalf of Irish Water by Ward & Burke Construction Ltd. and are expected to be completed by mid-November.
What are the benefits of the works?
The benefits of the leakage reduction works include:
• A Reliable Water Supply – Replacement of water mains and service connections will reduce the instances of bursts and water outages and will ensure a reliable supply of water to customers and local businesses in the area.

• Improved Operation and Maintenance – These works will deliver cost savings by providing improved water network operation that will require less maintenance in the future.
Traffic management and road closures
In order to complete these works in a safe and efficient manner, a road closure will be required along the L7835 from its junction at Aughamaddock to the N80 Road. The road closure will be in place from 08:00 – 18:00 Monday to Friday on Tuesday 6th September 2022 for approximately one month.
The suggested diversion route for traffic travelling towards Stradbally village, is via L7836 to Timahoe Road before continuing northeast to Stradbally village.
Works along the N80 Road and Kylebeg Road will be completed in a phased manner with a stop-go traffic system in place. Works will take place between the hours of 07:00 and 19:00 Monday – Friday. Local and emergency traffic will always be maintained.
