Stradbally Water Mains Replacement

National Leakage Reduction Programme

Uisce Éireann, in partnership with Laois County Council, is replacing problematic water mains in Stradbally Co. Laois to provide a more reliable water supply and reduce high levels of leakage.

The works involve the replacement of over 2km of problematic water mains with new modern pipes. The programme to replace the water mains in Stradbally, Co. Laois will commence in late-August 2022. These works are being carried out as part of Uisce Éireann’s National Leakage Reduction Programme.

The section of works will take place southeast of Stradbally village along the L7835, from its junction at Aughamaddock to the N80 Road. From there works will continue east before heading southbound along Kylebeg Road, finishing adjacent to Oakvale graveyard.

The works will be carried out on behalf of Uisce Éireann by Ward & Burke Construction Ltd. and are expected to be completed by mid-November.

What are the benefits of the works?

The benefits of the leakage reduction works include:

• A Reliable Water Supply – Replacement of water mains and service connections will reduce the instances of bursts and water outages and will ensure a reliable supply of water to customers and local businesses in the area.

• Reduced Leaks – Replacement of water mains and service connections will eliminate existing leaks and reduce the amount of clean drinking water lost into the ground.

• Improved Operation and Maintenance – These works will deliver cost savings by providing improved water network operation that will require less maintenance in the future.

Traffic management and road closures

In order to complete these works in a safe and efficient manner, a road closure will be required along the L7835 from its junction at Aughamaddock to the N80 Road. The road closure will be in place from 08:00 – 18:00 Monday to Friday on Tuesday 6th September 2022 for approximately one month.

The suggested diversion route for traffic travelling towards Stradbally village, is via L7836 to Timahoe Road before continuing northeast to Stradbally village.

Works along the N80 Road and Kylebeg Road will be completed in a phased manner with a stop-go traffic system in place. Works will take place between the hours of 07:00 and 19:00 Monday – Friday. Local and emergency traffic will always be maintained.

Will customers be affected by the works?

The works may involve some short-term water interruptions and the project team will ensure that customers are given a minimum of 48 hours’ notice prior to any planned water interruptions.
