Essential overnight restrictions required for Macroom lifted

25 August 2023

Information below is relevant until further updates are provided here or on our Supply and Service Updates section.

Night-time water restrictions that were necessary in the Macroom area have now been lifted.

Uisce Éireann and Cork County engineers have completed remedial works at the Macroom Water Treatment Plant following an unforeseen mechanical issue causing the plant to shutdown. As a result of the repair works, the reservoir levels are now beginning to recover, and night-time water restrictions are no longer required.

Speaking about the repair works, Operations Lead with Uisce Éireann, Niall O’Riordan said: "The repairs were conducted as quickly as possible to minimise disruption to the community. I want to thank our colleagues in Cork County Council for their assistance and to the people of Macroom for their patience."

Even though the restrictions are lifted, we can all continue to play our part in conserving water. It is important that we all consider our water usage and look at simple yet impactful ways to conserve water. It can sometimes be difficult to know where to start, but even small changes can make a significant difference, for example, turning off the hose, avoiding power washing and checking for leaks on outdoor taps."

Niall continued: “For more simple ways to conserve water check out the Uisce Éireann website where our Conservation Calculator can help people work out how much water they are currently saving and how they can conserve even more. We are also encouraging the public to report any visible leaks on the public network via our website at www.water.ie or by contacting 1800 278 278."
