26 October 2023

Information below is relevant until further updates are provided here or on our Supply and Service Updates section.

Repairs to pump successfully completed and water beginning to return

Uisce Eireann continues with repairs to a large burst water main in Wexford Town which has impacted water levels at Coolcots Reservoir. A further pump fault was also identified which further impacted levels. but has been successfully repaired, resulting in water supply returning to a number of areas. Due to ongoing repair works and high demand, the water supply may not return to the remaining areas until the early hours of tomorrow morning.

Repairs have proven to be complex due to the location of the burst and poor weather conditions impacting ground conditions. However, dedicated water service crews will continue to work on the mains repair, and throughout the night, if necessary, to restore normal water supply to all impacted customers as quickly as possible

While repairs continue, the following remaining areas may continue to experience supply outages and/or low pressure: Barntown, Townparks, Ard Carman, Coolotts and surrounding areas in Wexford Town.

Alternative Water Supply:

To support impacted customers, alternative water supplies with clean drinking water are in place at: Clonard Village, Cluain Dara, Ferndale, Belvedere, Ard Carman and Clonard Church until normal water supply returns. Customers are reminded to use their own containers when taking water from the tanker and to boil water before consumption as a precautionary measure as per Health Service Executive (HSE) advice.

Uisce Éireann is appealing to customers to conserve water to help restore normal water supply to impacted customers as quickly as possible. While handwashing remains a priority, simple water conservation efforts can have a big impact on reducing demand. Turning off the tap while brushing your teeth and shaving can save up to 6 litres of water per minute. Taking a shower instead of a bath or using a watering can rather than a hose when gardening can also make a big difference in water use.
