Wastewater Project

Modernising and upgrading the treatment plant in Tuam Co. Galway to improve performance and improve energy efficiency.

Uisce Éireann, working in partnership with Galway County Council, has invested €2.4 million to complete essential upgrades of the wastewater treatment plant (WWTP) at Tuam, Co. Galway.

TES Group Limited is delivering this project on behalf of Uisce Éireann’s Capital Programmes, with this project scheduled for completion in Q4 of 2019.

This project has upgraded and modernised several elements of the wastewater treatment process at the plant. This includes upgrades to the Weir Rd Pumping Station as well as the inlet works, sludge treatment and aeration systems at the WWTP to ensure compliance with the Wastewater Treatment Regulation and improve.

Steps

  1. Installing a new sludge imports reception facility at the WWTP to remove the current practice of importing sludges at the Weir Rd. Pumping Station which is located near a residential area
  2. Upgrading the current sludge treatment works which includes the replacement of the old sludge dewatering presses
  3. Upgrades to the inlet works and screening system at the plant
  4. Installing a new energy-efficient fine bubble diffusion aeration system to replace the old problematic surface aerators
  5. Upgrading the controls, ferric dosing pipework and other ancillary works
  6. Construction of a new internal site access road and exit from the plant
  7. Installing a new mechanical screen at the Weir Rd Pumping Station to replace the existing manual-raked screen
