Lough Kinale Water Treatment Plant Upgrade

Uisce Éireann has completed works to upgrade the water treatment plant in Lough Kinale, Co. Longford to benefit customers in Granard and the surrounding area.

Uisce Éireann, working in partnership with Longford County Council, has upgraded the water treatment plant in Lough Kinale, Co. Longford. This project will benefit over 2,500 customers supplied by the Granard Water Supply Scheme to ensure the delivery of a clean, safe drinking water source and facilitate the removal of the area from the EPA’s Remedial Action List (RAL).

The water treatment processes at the plant were inadequate in protecting against the formation of elevated concentrations of Trihalomethanes (THMs). The upgrade has modernised and improved the water treatment process at the plant and will facilitate the removal of the water supply from the EPA’s RAL.

The works were carried out by Veolia Water Ireland on behalf of Uisce Éireann. The project was delivered under the Early Contractor Involvement Programme.
