Balliniry Water Mains Replacement

National Leakage Reduction Programme

Uisce Éireann, in partnership with Wexford County Council, has replaced problematic water mains prone to bursts in Duncannon Line at Balliniry, Co. Wexford to improve security of supply, provide a more reliable water supply and reduce high levels of leakage.

The works involved the replacement of approximately 1600m of problematic water mains with new modern pipes. The programme to replace the water mains in Balliniry commenced in late October 2022. These works were carried out as part of Uisce Éireann’s National Leakage Reduction Programme.

The section of works took place along the R733 between the junction at Curraghmore and the junction with the R734 at Balliniry.

The works also involved laying new water service connections from the public water main in the road to customers’ property boundaries and connecting it to the customers’ water supply. Where the existing service connections on the public side are lead these werereplaced as part of this improvement work.

The works were carried out by our partners Wexford County Council and were completed by early February 2022.

What are the benefits of the works?

The benefits of the leakage reduction works include:

  • A Reliable Water Supply – Replacement of water mains and service connections will reduce the instances of bursts and water outages and will ensure a reliable supply of water to customers and local businesses in the area.
  • Reduced Leaks – Replacement of water mains and service connections will eliminate existing leaks and reduce the amount of clean drinking water lost into the ground.
  • Improved Operation and Maintenance – These works will deliver cost savings by providing improved water network operation that will require less maintenance in the future.

Will customers be affected by the works?

To facilitate safe delivery of the works and efficiently replace this section of water main there is a need to operate under a local road closure. The road closure period granted by Wexford County Council to complete these works extends from 08.00 to 17.00 from Monday 17th October 2022 until Friday 3rd February 2023. During a planned road closure, local and emergency access will always be maintained. Diversion routes will be in place and clearly sign posted. It is planned to remove the closure during the Christmas period.

We understand that this type of work can be inconvenient and works crews will make every effort to minimise any disruption these necessary works cause.
