Ash Hill Water Mains Replacement

National Leakage Reduction Programme

The works involved the replacement of over 3,722 metres of problematic trunk water mains with new modern ductile iron pipes. The programme to replace the water mains in Ash Hill commenced in mid-November. These works were carried out as part of Uisce Éireann’s National Leakage Reduction Programme.

Works took place in two sections - from the crossroads at Farmer’s Bridge south to Lissardboola and on the L2012 from the Farmer’s Bridge crossroads Eastbound via Tonreigh for approximately 2.5km.

The works were carried out on behalf of Uisce Éireann by Ward and Burke in conjunction with Kerry County Council and were completed in mid- January.

Benefits

  • Reliable Water Supply – Replacement of water mains and service connections will reduce the instances of bursts and water outages and will ensure a reliable supply of water to customers and local businesses in the area.
  • Reduced Leaks – Replacement of water mains and service connections will eliminate existing leaks and reduce the amount of clean drinking water lost into the ground
  • Improved Water Quality - Removing existing old cast iron and lead from the public water network and replacing them with new pipes will reduce the risk of contamination.

What is involved?

  • The works may involve some short-term water shut offs and the project team will ensure that customers are given a minimum of 48 hours’ notice prior to any planned water shut offs.

  • Residents and businesses in the areas to benefit from the planned improvements will be notified directly and customers can phone Uisce Éireann on 1800 278 278 if they have any questions about the project.

  • In order to complete the works in an efficient and safe manner, the L2018 Road will remain closed from the Farmer’s Bridge Crossroads via Lissardboola to the Ash Hill road from 08 November to 19 November with access limited to local residents.

  • The suggested Southbound diversion route is N22 towards Tralee and the N70 to the L2019 towards Ash Hill. Northbound traffic take the N70 towards Tralee and the N22 as far as the L2018 junction to Farmer’s Bridge.

  • A second road closure is required from 22 November to 22 December along the L2012 route extending from Farmer’s Bridge Crossroads via Tonreigh to the junction for Ashill.

  • The L2018 will remain open during this phase of the works and the suggested diversion route is to continue on the L2018 Southbound continuing on the Ash Hill road towards the L2012.
