Restrictions are being implemented due to the ongoing drought conditions which are leading to a serious reduction in raw water supplies

Irish Water, working in partnership with Galway County Council, would like to advise customers on Inis Meáin that water restrictions will be imposed on the island effective immediately from 8pm to 8am daily.

These restrictions are being implemented due to the ongoing drought conditions which are leading to a serious reduction in raw water supplies coupled with a significant increase in water usage, well above levels seen in previous summers on Inis Meáin.

About the Restrictions

Night time restrictions on Inis Mór and Inis Oírr will continue from 8pm to 8am daily with a further afternoon restriction likely to be introduced if the drought continues. Water usage on Inis Mór has remained high throughout the summer, although leak repair works have gone some way to reduce the level of increase in demand. However, reservoir levels are giving cause for very serious concern and the boreholes that supplement the supply have a limited period of output left before they will be exhausted.

Leak Repairs

A leak repair crew is working on Inis Meáin today (Tuesday) to repair two identified leaks on the water main network. Domestic meter reading will be carried out on the three Aran Islands until July 30 and First Fix Free letters will be issued to customers immediately. We would hope that customers will take up these offers.

First Fix Free

The First Fix Free scheme aims to help reduce the amount of water wasted through leaks on customers' properties. The scheme has saved over 89 million litres of water every day (enough for the daily supply of the City and County of Galway) from the repair of almost 63,000 leaks. The scheme offers a free investigation if your water meter has indicated a possible leak on your external supply pipe and a free repair of the leak subject to terms and conditions of the scheme. More information on this scheme is available on our First Fix page

Leak Reporting

Irish Water continues to appeal to the public to notify us of leaks which will be followed up. Public side leaks are dealt with in the first instance by the local authority teams. Irish Water has contractors available to assist with private side leaks under the First Fix Free scheme. Where the utility cannot access private property to repair obvious leaks, we are committed to serving enforcement notices under the legislation to enable us to have these effectively addressed.

It will take sustained rainfall over many weeks and even months to replenish raw water levels in rivers, lakes and groundwater sources and treated drinking water levels in our storage reservoirs. Irish Water will continue to analyse water consumption levels on a daily basis. At the same time, we are monitoring the continued fall in water levels in our sources.

Tá srianta á gcur i bhfeidhm de bharr na gcoinníollacha triomach atá ag leanúint le laghdú tromchúiseach ar sholáthairtí uisce amh

Ba mhaith le hUisce Éireann, ag obair i gcomhpháirtíocht le Comhairle Chontae na Gaillimhe, a fhógairt go gcuirfear srianta uisce ar Inis Meáin i bhfeidhm láithreach ó 8pm-8am gach lá.

Tá gá leis na srianta seo mar gheall ar na coinníollacha triomaigh agus an laghdú ar sholáthar amhuisce a tháinig mar thoradh. Chomh maith leis sin, tá ardú tagtha ar úsáid uisce an oileáin, leis an leibhéal úsáide i bhfad níos airde ná na samhraí roimhe seo.

Leanfaidh leis na srianta gach oíche ar Inis Mór agus Inis Oírr ó 8pm go dtí 8am agus tá seans maith ann go gcuirfear srian tráthnóna i bhfeidhm má leanann an triomach air. Tá ardúsáid uisce ar Inis Mór an samhradh seo, cé gur éirigh le deisiúcháin sceitheanna an leibhéal méadaithe éilimh a laghdú beagán. Is cúis mhór imní iad na leibhéil taiscumair agus níl ach tréimhse theoranta tháirgeachta ag na poill tóraíochta a chuireann leis an soláthar sula mbeidh siad ídithe.

Tá criú deisiúcháin sceitheanna ag obair ar Inis Meáin inniu (An Mháirt) lé dhá sceitheadh a bhí aimsithe ar an bpríomhlíonra uisce á ndeisiú acu. Déanfar léamh méadair teaghlaigh ar na trí oiléan go dtí an 30 Iúil agus eiseofar litreacha An Chéad Deisiú gan Chostas láithreach. Tá súil againn go dtapóidh custaiméirí ar na tairiscintí seo.

Is é aidhm An Chéad Deisiú gan Chostas ná an méid uisce a chailltear trí sceitheanna ar áitribh chustaiméirí a laghdú. Trí dheisiúchán a dhéanamh ar bheagnach 63,000 sceitheadh, tá níos mó ná 89 milliún lítear uisce sábháilte in aghaidh an lae (soláthar laethúil Chontae agus Cathair na Gaillimhe).

Cuireann an scéim fiosrúchán saor in aisce ar fháil má thugann do mhéadar uisce le fios gur seans ann go bhfuil sceitheadh ar do phíobán soláthair seachtrach agus cuirtear deisiúchán saor in aisce ar fáil ag brath ar théarmaí agus coinníollacha na scéime.  Is féidir leat tuilleadh eolas a fháil ag https://www.water.ie/for-home/first-fix/

Iarrann Uisce Éireann ar an bpobal muid a chur ar an eolas faoi sceitheanna a aimsítear, agus déanfaimid iad a dheisiú. I dtosach báire, déileálann na foirne údárais áitiúla le sceitheanna ar an taobh poiblí. Tá conraitheoirí ar fáil ag Uisce Éireann chun tacaíocht a thabhairt le sceitheanna a ghabhann le háitribh phríobháideacha faoin scéim An Chéad Deisiú Gan Chostas. Táimid tiomanta d’fhógraí forfheidhiúchán a chur i bhfeidhm faoin reachtaíocht in áitribh phríobhaideacha nár féidir linn rochtain a fháil orthu ionas go mbeidh muid in ann sceitheanna soiléire a dheisiú go héifeachtach.

Tógfaidh sé báisteach leanúnach thar roinnt seachtainí nó roinnt míonna fiú chun na leibhéil amhuisce in aibhneacha, lochanna agus foinsí screamhuisce chomh maith leis an leibheál uisce inólta atá cóireáilte inár dtaiscumair stórála a athlíonadh. Déanfaimid anailís ar na leibhéil úsáide uisce ar bhonn laethúil. Táimid ag déanamh monatóireachta ar an titim leanunach ar leibhéil uisce inár bhfoinsí ag an am céanna.
