Essential water mains maintenance works to safeguard supply in Limerick City

09 January 2023

Uisce Éireann is working in partnership with Limerick City & County Council to carry out essential maintenance works, to safeguard the water supply for homes and businesses supplied by Newcastle Reservoir.

Works are scheduled to take place tomorrow Tuesday, 10 January to Tuesday, 17 January 2023. During the works, customers in Limerick City and environs may experience intermittent, temporary discolouration of water / the water to appear brown or orange, for up to 48 hours during the maintenance works.

If discoloration occurs, Uisce Éireann and Limerick City and County Council recommend running the kitchen tap for a few minutes to see if the water returns to a clear colour. For more information, customers can visit the Discoloured water section of our website.

Duane O’Brien, Operational Lead with Uisce Éireann, said, “These scheduled maintenance works are necessary to continue to provide a safe and reliable supply to Limerick City and its environs. Uisce Éireann understands the inconvenience when essential maintenance is carried out on the water network and thanks customers for their patience while we complete works as quickly as possible. During the works, some customers may experience temporary, intermittent discoloured water. Usually running the cold kitchen tap for a few minutes will restore the clear colour.
