Advice of temporary cessation of tankered wastewater and sludge imports into Osberstown Wastewater Treatment Plant

13 April 2023

Alternative location to be provided at Ringsend Wastewater Treatment Plant and Sludge Hub.

Uisce Éireann would like to advise of the temporary cessation of tankered wastewater and sludge imports as a result of operational issues at Osberstown Wastewater Treatment Plant and Sludge Hub in Co Kildare. Uisce Éireann is working closely with the operators of the wastewater treatment plant to identify and implement solutions that will allow the importation of tankered sludge to restart at Osberstown.

To ensure that we support operators with licensed agreements for Osberstown, Uisce Éireann has arranged for operators to be directed to an alternative wastewater treatment plant and sludge hub at Ringsend. All operators have been contacted by Uisce Éireann to advise of the temporary arrangements.

Jonathan Deane, Wastewater Regional Operations & Maintenance Manager at Uisce Éireann explained, “We appreciate the current operational difficulties at Osberstown Wastewater Treatment Plant may cause inconvenience but we are working closely with the plant operators to resolve these issues. In the meantime, the Ringsend facility is fully operational and will serve as a temporary solution. We will continue to keep the operators and stakeholders updated on progress at the plant.”
