Information for staff who choose to transfer to Uisce Éireann

Building on the invaluable experience and capabilities of Local Authority staff.

There is a role within Uisce Éireann for every person who currently works more than 50% of their time in water services in a Local Authority. This will mean the essential local knowledge and delivery of service will continue and will be supported by national and regional planning and investment. You have made an immense contribution to water services over many decades, and water services will continue to be delivered in our communities by our people who know the local areas well. We want to work together as we build for the next phase of water sector transformation. Uisce Éireann will provide opportunities as part of a growing and dynamic sector. Your local knowledge will be essential in delivering services as we drive much needed investment.

The Framework for the Future Delivery of Water Services set out a number of clear guarantees for staff who choose to transfer to Uisce Éireann. It follows on from the successful conclusion of talks facilitated by the Workplace Relations Commission (WRC) between the Department of Housing, Local government and Heritage, Irish Water, the County and City Managers Association (CCMA), the Local Government Management Association (LGMA), and union management and their representatives.

Uisce Éireann will assume the necessary control of water services operations and staff, with full accountability for same, on a phased basis during 2023. Staff can voluntarily transfer to Uisce Éireann under terms and conditions as set out in the Framework.

Uisce Éireann will operate an insourced direct labour operating model for day-to-day activity, with core services continuing to be delivered by our own workforce. The focus will be on maintaining stability of operations, service continuity and safety (of both public health and staff) as we transition.

Clinics for all staff to answer specific questions or provide clarity on Uisce Éireann proposition.

Opportunity to make a decision

Following one on one clinics individual can decide to join. Contract information will be issued.

Up to the end of 2026

All remaining water services staff can consider joining Uisce Éireann up to the end of 2026.
