Essential overnight restriction required for Trim to help reservoir levels recover

15 February 2024

Information below is relevant until further updates are provided here or on our Supply and Service Updates section.

Uisce Éireann advises customers in Trim and surrounding areas that an essential overnight restriction will be required from 10pm tonight until 6am tomorrow morning to allow water levels in Brayhill and Summerhill Reservoirs to improve.

The restrictions are required due to poor raw water quality entering the water treatment plant and the continued high demand for water.

To improve reservoir levels and maintain a sufficient water supply to homes and businesses during the daytime, customers in the following areas will experience reduced pressure from 10pm tonight until 6am tomorrow morning: Trim, Knightsbrook, Scurlockstown, Effernock, Carberstown, Blackfriary, Crowpark, Clonbun, Rathmolyon, and surrounding areas. It can take two to three hours following restoration of pressure for normal supply to be fully restored to all areas.

During the daytime, we are appealing to customers to help conserve water by not running taps needlessly, taking showers instead of baths and to postpone using dishwashers and washing machines where possible. Further information on water conservation is available on our website on our Conservation section.

Uisce Éireann continues to monitor reservoir levels daily and will issue a further update if further restrictions are needed.

Uisce Éireann continues with works to improve the water supply in Trim including interim upgrades at the treatment plant, which are due for completion this year, as well as a major project to upgrade and modernise the plant and address ongoing operational issues, meet demand, and ensure that the drinking water supplies meet requirements under the Drinking Water Regulations.  Planning permission has been granted and, following additional consents and pre-construction works, it is envisaged that construction will commence in Q4. We will continue to provide updates on timelines as we progress the project.

The Uisce Éireann customer care helpline is open 24/7 on 1800 278 278 and customers can also contact us on Twitter @IWCare with any queries. For updates on local water supply issues, please visit our Water Supply Updates section.

Thanking the community for their patience, Uisce Éireann’s Jamie Blacoe said: “We understand the impact restrictions have on a community, but they are essential to allow reservoir levels to recover overnight and maintain a consistent supply of drinking water for customers during the day. We thank the community for their support and ask them to consider their water usage in the days ahead.
