Grand Parade Pump Station Improvement Works
Uisce Éireann has completed works in the Grand Parade area of the city to improve Cork City's wastewater infrastructure.
The works allowed access for specialist contractors to the underground Pump Station located on Grand Parade, for removal of redundant equipment, cleaning of the pumping station and removal of historical debris. It provided further opportunities to survey and inspect the existing structure and provides resilience for the continuation of critical wastewater infrastructure improvements within Cork City.
Works were complete in March 2026.
The section of works took place on a short section of Sullivans Quay, across Nano Nagle Bridge and along Grand Parade.
The works were carried out on behalf of Uisce Éireann by Ward and Burke Construction Ltd.
What are the benefits of the works?
The benefits of these wastewater infrastructure improvement works include:
- Investment in wastewater infrastructure – This project has provided improvements to the existing wastewater pumping station in Grand Parade.
- Enhanced standards across the wastewater network - internal cleaning of the pump station, and removal and disposal of waste accumulated within the pump station will reduce risk of overflows into the River Lee.
- Building capability for future improvement – This project provided improved isolation and control capability for future maintenance and improvement activities.
