Adare Rationalisation Project

Uisce Éireann progresses with works on the Adare Rationalisation project to provide a more secure and reliable water supply and to cater for the future growth and development in Adare, Co Limerick.

Uisce Éireann is progressing works on the upgrade of the existing water network in Adare to provide a more secure and reliable water supply and to cater for the future growth and development of the area.

The initial phase of works has completed, which involved the construction of two kilometres of water main from the Adare reservoir along the N21 and the Adare to Ballingarry regional road R519.

Uisce Éireann is now progressing with the remaining phase of works. This second phase of works will involve the construction of the remaining 7.1 kilometres of water main, which will connect the Adare Network to the Limerick City and Environs Supply Zone. Water main will be laid along the L8022, L4120, L8060 and the N20 to the connection point. These works will be delivered by Ward and Burke Construction Ltd on behalf of Uisce Éireann and are expected to be completed in Q3 2026.

Will customers be affected by the works?

  • Areas of work will be limited to short sections to minimise impact on customers. To safely and efficiently deliver the project, traffic management will be in place in the form of temporary road closures, stop and go, and two-way traffic systems.
  • A road closure is required along the L8022 Drehidtarsna to Castleroberts from its junction, with the R519 Ballingarry Road at Drehidtarsna/Beabus to the junction with the L1420 at Castleroberts/Fanningstown.  The road will be closed from 08 September 2025 until 19 December 2025. The road will reopen temporarily but will need to close again afterwards to complete the remaining works.
  • The works may involve some short-term water interruptions, and the project team will ensure that customers are given a minimum of 48 hours’ notice prior to any planned water interruptions.
  • We understand that this type of work can be inconvenient and works crews will make every effort to minimise any disruption these necessary works cause.
