Works progressing for critical water infrastructure upgrade in Clonmel

Information below is relevant until further updates are provided here or on our Supply and Service Updates section

Uisce Éireann is making steady progress on its multi-million investment to strengthen and safeguard Clonmel’s water supply. Critical upgrade works at the Monroe Water Treatment Plant continue to progress while over 13km of the planned 15km new water main installation have been completed.  The project will deliver significant improvements to the town’s drinking-water infrastructure and ensure that homes and businesses in Clonmel and the surrounding areas benefit from a safer, more reliable, and resilient supply.

To facilitate connections of the newly installed water mains there will be a planned interruption to the water supply which may impact customers in areas of Clonmel. Customers in Irish Town, Oldbridge, Western Road, Connolly Park, Poppyfields, Cherrymount, Glenconnor, Elm Park, Prior Park, Thomas Street, Shamrock Hill, Cashel Road, and the surrounding areas will experience disruption to their supply from 7pm on Tuesday 10 March to 7am on Wednesday, 11 March.

Uisce Éireann’s Darragh Hannon said, “We understand the inconvenience caused by an interruption to supply. Every effort will be made to limit the impact of these essential works, and we would like to thank the community in advance for their patience and co-operation.

“Following the completion of the works, it can take two to three hours for normal water supply to return to customers as water refills the network, particularly for those properties on higher ground or at the end of the network.”

Vulnerable customers who have registered with Uisce Éireann receive direct communications from us for planned and unplanned outages lasting more than four hours. To register as a vulnerable customer or as an alternative contact, visit our Vulnerable Customers page.

The works at Monroe Water Treatment Plant include a full upgrade of the existing treatment facilities providing the capacity required to enable the rationalisation of the Poulavangoue Water Treatment Plant. Enhancements will also be made to the Rathronan Pump Station, which will connect the Monroe supply to the Clonmel North Reservoir, providing additional resilience to the Poulavanogue network. Once complete, customers currently served by the Poulavanogue Water Treatment Plant will be transferred to the upgraded Monroe supply. Customers can check their supply zone in advance on our website.
