Water supply returns in Thomastown

Information below is relevant until further updates are provided here or on our Supply and Service Updates section

A full water supply is returning to Thomastown customers affected by an early morning burst.

Crews have completed repairs and reopened Mauldin Street where the repairs took place.

Uisce Éireann’s Shane Aylward thanked customers and road users for their patience while crews worked tirelessly to minimise disruption.

“Within the past hour works were completed, water has returned to customers affected and the road has been reopened. We know how inconvenient a burst is for the public, but our crews were on site immediately to carry out repairs."

Previous Updates

Uisce Éireann crews are investigating a burst water main that is impacting supply to customers in the Thomastown area of Co Kilkenny this morning.

Homes and businesses in Maudlin Street, Maudlin Court, Dublin Road, Kilkenny Road, Berkley Lawn, Dunan, Hillview, Smithstown, Kilfane, and surrounding areas may be experiencing low pressure or intermittent supply as a result of this burst.

Uisce Éireann’s Shane Aylward explained that crews have been mobilised and will be carrying out repairs throughout the day. He expects them to have work completed by 9pm and a normal water supply restored to customers tonight.

To facilitate the works and ensure the safety of crews and road users, traffic management will be in place in the area for the duration of the works.

Mauldlin Street will be closed to through traffic with no access through Thomastown from the Dublin Road. Traffic travelling from Kilkenny to Thomastown or towards Inistioge/New Ross should divert via Knocktopher. Traffic from Gowran should divert via Graiguenamanagh.

To ensure the safety of crews and road users traffic management will be in place in the area. Diversions will be clearly signposted.
“We know the inconvenience that unplanned bursts like this one in Thomastown causes for our customers, particularly at the weekend, but I can assure all those affected that our crews are working as quickly as they can to restore normal supply.”
