Water supply returning to customers in Omeath

22 March 2026

Information below is relevant until further updates are provided here or on our Supply and Service Updates section

Water supply is returning to Uisce Éireann customers in Omeath this morning following a mechanical issue at Rath Reservoir yesterday.

As the network refills and supplies return throughout the day, customers in Omeath and surrounding areas may experience intermittent disruption or low water pressure for the remainder of the day. Customers on higher ground or at the end of the network may not have water supply returned until late afternoon.

Alternative water supplies are available in Omeath at St. Laurence’s Church car park to support impacted customers. Customers are advised to bring their own containers to take water and to boil the water before consumption as a precaution.

James O’Hagan, Uisce Éireann Water Treatment Operations Manager for County Louth, thanked customers for their patience.
Supply will be returning to all customers in Omeath in the coming hours, but they may experience low pressure over the course of the day as the reservoirs continue to replenish. We understand the inconvenience of an unplanned outage and thank the local community for their patience.”

Previous Updates

Uisce Éireann customers in the Cooley Peninsula may experience some disruptions to their water supply this afternoon.

This is a result of a mechanical issue at Rath Reservoir this morning, which caused an interruption to normal operations.

Water supply has been impacted to some homes and businesses in Cooley, Rath North, Rath South, Riverstown, Bush, Lordship, Omeath, Jenkinstown, Gyles Quay, and surrounding areas. Customers will have their water restored at different stages throughout the evening and overnight as the reservoir recovers. Customers on higher ground or at the end of the network may not see water supply returned until tomorrow morning.

Alternative water supplies are being organised and will be available for affected customers from 4pm this afternoon. These will be located at the car park opposite Lordship Church and at the car park of Cooley Kickhams GFC.  Customers are advised to bring their own containers to take water and to boil the water before consumption as a precaution.

James O’Hagan, Uisce Éireann Water Treatment Operations Manager for County Louth, assured customers that every effort is being made to restore a full water supply as quickly as possible.

“We have carried out network adjustments to reduce the number of customers impacted and anticipate that supply will be returned to the majority of customers later this evening, while the remaining customers will have supply restored tomorrow morning.  We understand the inconvenience of an unplanned outage and regret any inconvenience caused.”
