Water conservation urged as night-time restrictions required in parts of Dungarvan

Information below is relevant until further updates are provided here or on our Supply and Service Updates section

Night-time restrictions and temporary interruptions to water supply are required this week in parts of the Dungarvan area to support treated water reservoir recovery and help safeguard daytime supply for homes, businesses, and essential services.

Customers in Abbeyside, Ballinroad, Clonea, Caseyville and surrounding areas may experience low water pressure or interruptions to their water supply tonight, Friday and Saturday from 3 am until 7 am, and on Sunday night from 11:30 pm until 7 am.

Low treated water reservoir levels and sustained high demand in the Dungarvan area mean night-time restrictions are required to help protect daytime water supplies for homes, businesses, and essential services.

Customers are being asked to play their part by conserving water wherever possible throughout the week. Small changes in daily water use can make a significant difference in protecting supply, supporting treated water reservoir recovery, and helping to maintain daytime water services for everyone in the area.

Maura Phelan, Operations Manager with Uisce Éireann, said: "The overnight restrictions are helping to support treated water reservoir recovery and maintain daytime water supplies for homes, businesses, farms and essential services across the Dungarvan area.

"We are asking customers to continue making every effort to conserve water throughout the week. By reducing non-essential water use, everyone can help protect local supplies and support reservoir recovery. We thank customers for their continued cooperation and understanding."

Simple steps taken at home, in the garden, on farms and in workplaces can make a real difference in protecting local water supplies during this period.

Tips to Conserve Water

  • Drop the hose: Use a rose-head watering can instead of a hose or sprinkler. Water plants early or late in the day to reduce evaporation.
  • Take shorter showers instead of a bath: Reducing your shower time can save up to 10 litres of water per minute. A typical bath uses around 80 litres.
  • Turn off the tap: Avoid running water while brushing your teeth or shaving.
  • Fill up your appliances: Only run your washing machine and dishwasher when they have a full load.
  • Fix dripping taps: A single dripping tap can waste between 5,000 and 10,000 litres of water a year.
  • Use a basin in the sink: Use a basin when rinsing vegetables or washing dishes and reuse that water for your plants.
  • Clean the car with a sponge: When washing your car, avoid the hose and use a bucket and sponge instead.
  • Install a water butt: Use it to collect rainwater from your gutters for gardening or washing the yard.
  • Pick plants wisely: Opt for low-water plants wherever possible.
  • Lock in moisture: Add bark or plant material to flower beds to help prevent evaporation.
