Uisce Éireann are to progress a programme of works to replace over 400 metres of aging cast iron water mains with new services at Colmcille Terrace, Granard, Co Longford.
The works will provide a more secure and reliable water supply for residents of Colmcille Terrace and will significantly reduce high levels of leakage on the network.
The works, which are being carried out under Uisce Éireann’s National Leakage Reduction Programme, will commence next week and are expected to be completed by the Spring.
The works will also involve laying new water service connections from the public water main in the road to customers’ property boundaries and connecting it to the customers’ water supply.
The works will benefit residents and businesses by reducing instances of bursts and other supply disruptions and improving the operation of the network to reduce the risk of further maintenance work being required in the future. It will also provide a more reliable supply of clean water by eliminating the challenges associated with aging cast iron mains.
Areas of work will be limited to short sections to minimise impact on customers. Traffic management in the form of a stop/go system will be in place during these periods of work, but local and emergency traffic will always be maintained.
Dave Murphy, Programme Manager with Uisce Éireann, said that customers in Colmcille Terrace can look forward to a more secure and reliable supply of drinking water because of these main replacement works.
“Not only will these upgrades result in fewer leaks, but the new pipes will also significantly lower the instances of bursts and outages on the network, leading to a more secure supply for the residents of Colmcille Terrace,” said Dave.
Works are being carried out by Shareridge on behalf of Uisce Éireann.
