Uisce Éireann submits planning application to improve water supply resilience in Lismore

Uisce Éireann has today submitted a planning application for a significant upgrade to the water supply infrastructure in Lismore. This project is a key milestone for the area, helping to strengthen the security and resilience of the water supply for homes and businesses.

Subject to a successful planning decision, Uisce Éireann is progressing proposals to deliver treated water storage for Lismore, alongside upgrades at the water treatment plant to strengthen treatment processes, improve monitoring and enhance overall resilience. The proposed new reservoir, providing approximately 24 hours’ storage capacity, would help stabilise supply during periods of high demand, planned maintenance and unexpected interruptions, supporting greater day-to-day reliability for the community.

This proposal builds on significant investment delivered in Lismore recently, including the replacement of 3km of ageing watermains across the town, alongside resilience upgrades at the water treatment plant. Targeted Find and Fix repair works have also identified and repaired a number of leaks helping to reduce the amount of water lost through leakage and delivering meaningful water savings for the community.

Commenting on the submission, Julie Curtin, Programme Manager at Uisce Éireann, said the planning application marks an important milestone towards delivering a more robust and future proofed water supply for Lismore.
