Uisce Éireann invests €1.4 billion in 2025 to deliver safer, more reliable water services for communities, support housing delivery and enable growth
Uisce Éireann has today published its 2025 Annual Report, outlining the organisation’s continued investment in essential water and wastewater infrastructure to support public health, protect the environment, and enable social and economic growth across Ireland.
During 2025, Uisce Éireann invested €1.431 billion in improving and upgrading water and wastewater services nationwide. This investment focused on enhancing the safety and quality of water supplies, improving sustainability, and strengthening the resilience and reliability of critical infrastructure.
The utility continued to play a critical role in enabling housing delivery, with connection offers associated with almost 42,000 housing units offered during the year.
The report highlights significant progress in improving water quality and reducing the number of customers affected by long-term boil water notices.
During the year, 28,720 people were removed from boil water notices lasting more than 30 days, with just 161 people remaining affected at year end.
Over 74% of boil water notices issued in 2025 were resolved within 30 days.
Uisce Éireann also continued to deliver major infrastructure projects across the country, including the delivery of 12 new and upgraded wastewater treatment plants and the upgrade of 27 water treatment plants.
Significant progress was made in the delivery of critical national projects to enable housing delivery and attract investment to support Ireland’s growing population for the next 30 years and beyond, including the Water Supply Project for the Eastern and Midlands Region, and the Greater Dublin Drainage Project.
In addition, 195km of water mains and 78km of wastewater network were laid or rehabilitated during 2025, supporting more efficient and resilient networks.
Progress was also made in addressing legacy environmental issues, with four more communities connected to new or upgraded wastewater treatment plants, helping to end the discharge of untreated wastewater. By the end of 2025, 38 of the original 50 locations identified in 2014 as discharging raw sewage had been completed, with three more under construction.
A further nine areas were removed from the EPA’s priority list for wastewater improvement, reflecting ongoing improvements in environmental compliance.

Increasing water and wastewater capacity is central to the delivery of the 300,000 new homes that are needed across the country. Continued investment is essential to build the infrastructure that meets the needs of our communities today and for generations to come.”
The Annual Report also highlights the ongoing transformation of Uisce Éireann into a single, national utility, bringing together expertise from across the country to deliver consistent, high-quality services to customers.
