Significant water upgrade for Port na Bláiche and An Craoslach passes halfway point

Information below is relevant until further updates are provided here or on our Supply and Service Updates section

Uisce Éireann’s investment to improve water supply for customers in North Donegal is progressing well, with works in the Port na Bláiche and An Craoslach areas now past the halfway stage and moving into Phase 2 in the coming days.

To date, more than 800 metres of new water mains have been successfully installed, with a further 500 metres to be laid as part of the project. When complete, the works will deliver greater confidence in water supply for communities in An Fhothair, Port na Bláiche and Droim na Rátha, An Craoslach.

The project involves the replacement of ageing water mains with new modern pipes along sections of the N56 between An Fhothair and Droim na Rátha, and is being delivered as part of Uisce Éireann’s National Leakage Reduction Programme.

This significant investment will help reduce leakage, minimise the risk of bursts and strengthen the resilience of the local water network for homes and businesses.

Uisce Éireann Programme Manager Patricia Lowry is pleased with the progress to date and thanked the local community for their continued cooperation: “We are delighted to see this project pass the halfway point, with 800 metres of new water mains now in place. I would like to sincerely thank the local community for their continued support and patience as works progress into the next phase. These upgrades are critical to strengthening the water network and will deliver long term benefits, including improved reliability of supply, fewer bursts and reduced leakage.”

To ensure the works are delivered safely and efficiently, traffic lights will remain in place while construction continues. Local and emergency access will be maintained at all times.

Farrans Construction is carrying out the works on behalf of Uisce Éireann, with the project expected to be completed in early summer of this year.

This project forms part of Uisce Éireann’s National Leakage Reduction Programme, which continues to deliver benefits to communities across Ireland, including improved water quality, a more resilient and sustainable water supply, and significant water savings.
