Significant investment to bring lasting benefits to Fenagh community
Uisce Éireann is set to carry out essential water main replacement works in Fenagh to provide homes and businesses with a more reliable and sustainable water supply. The local community will welcome the news that important upgrade works will get underway next week to address frequent bursts. As part of the National Leakage Reduction Programme, almost 3km of old and damaged water mains will be replaced with new, modern pipes.
The works will take place along the R202 between Ardrum and Fenagh, with traffic lights in place throughout the project to ensure the safety of road users and crews.
Patricia Lowry, Programme Manager with Uisce Éireann, welcomed the commencement of the works:
“We are delighted to be delivering this important investment for the communities of Fenagh and Ardrum. Customers in this area have experienced frequent bursts, and replacing this section of water main is essential to protecting their water supply. We understand that works of this nature can be inconvenient, and our crews will work as efficiently as possible to minimise any disruption. We would like to thank the community in advance for their patience and cooperation as we complete this vital upgrade.”
These works will be delivered on behalf of Uisce Éireann by Farrans Construction, with completion expected by Autumn 2026.
The project team will ensure that customers receive a minimum of 48 hours’ notice in advance of any planned outage while the upgrades are underway.
The Uisce Éireann Customer Contact Centre, open 24/7 on freephone 1800 278 278, is available to answer any queries.

These upgrades in County Leitrim are part of the National Leakage Reduction Programme and are designed to reduce leakage, minimise the risk of disruptive bursts and strengthen the local water network for the community.
Uisce Éireann’s long-term goal is to reduce leakage to 20%, and we are committed to achieving this through appropriate and targeted investment in our water network.
To help achieve this, we are investing more than €1 billion up to the end of 2029 in the network, including leakage reduction measures. This planned investment will deliver further vital upgrades to the underground water network, reducing leakage, improving water quality, and providing a more reliable water supply for Irish homes and businesses.
Uisce Éireann is responsible for delivering public drinking water and wastewater services for the people of Ireland. We are committed to enabling communities to thrive by continuously upgrading and developing critical infrastructure to support sustainable growth and development, providing safe drinking water, and enhancing the environment.
