Rathnew community to benefit from improved, more dependable water supply
New water main will increase capacity and strengthen the network
Residents and businesses in Rathnew are set to benefit from essential improvements to the local water network as Uisce Éireann commences works to replace ageing water mains in the area.
Delivered under Uisce Éireann's National Leakage Reduction Programme, the project will involve the replacement of approximately 215 metres of older water mains with new modern pipes. The upgrade will help reduce leakage, improve efficiency and provide a more reliable water supply for customers in Rathnew.
Works are commencing this week and will be carried out by GMC Utilities Ltd. on behalf of Uisce Éireann. The project is expected to be complete by the end of the year.
Welcoming the project, Mark O’Duffy of Uisce Éireann said:
"Every pipe we replace is guided by one clear goal: providing a water supply people can count on. These improvements will help reduce leakage, strengthen the local network and improve reliability for customers across Rathnew. By replacing ageing infrastructure now, we are helping to ensure the community continues to benefit from a safe and secure water supply for years to come."
Customers can phone Uisce Éireann on 1800 278 278 if they have any questions about the project or visit the Water Supply Updates section of our website for regular updates.
We have measures in place to keep disruption to an absolute minimum but, to protect the public and our crews, a traffic management system will be in place during the works. Local and emergency traffic will always be maintained.
This project is one example of how Uisce Éireann works every day to reduce leaks. With more than 65,000 km of underground pipes nationally, enough to circle the earth one and a half times, fixing leaks can be complicated.
Many are hidden, but we are making progress. National leakage is now at its lowest level ever, reduced from 49% in 2014 to 36% today.
