The public are asked to continue to be mindful of water use ahead of another warm weekend

As Uisce Éireann continues to ask customers to be mindful of their water use ahead of another warm and dry weekend, we are encouraging everyone to play their part in helping to protect water supplies, particularly in areas where water conservation measures and weather advisories remain in place.

Periods of prolonged warm weather can place significant pressure on local water supplies, treatment plants and networks. Small changes in how we use water at home and in the garden can make a real difference. Avoiding unnecessary use of hosepipes, power washers and paddling pools can significantly reduce demand at peak times and help protect supplies for homes, businesses and essential services.

Uisce Éireann is also engaging with large water users to encourage conservation measures, improve efficiency and ensure responsible use of water resources.

There is a common perception that all data centres are major users of drinking water. Our data shows this is not the case. Overall, data centres are not a major driver of demand on the public water supply network, accounting for less than 0.3% of the water supplied by Uisce Éireann. Due to advances in cooling technology, modern data centres use relatively small volumes of water. In addition, not all data centres use water from the Uisce Éireann network, with a number of them having their own wells or utilising rain water harvesting and on site storage.

Uisce Éireann closely monitors water use across all large customers and works with businesses, including data centre operators, to promote efficient and sustainable water use.

As we head into another period of warm weather, our message remains the same for all customers — households, businesses and public bodies alike. Every drop counts. By taking simple steps to reduce unnecessary water use, we can help protect local water supplies and reduce pressure on treatment plants and networks at times of peak demand.

Uisce Éireann will continue to monitor supplies across the country and invest in the infrastructure needed to support communities, economic growth and future development, while ensuring water resources are managed sustainably for everyone.
