Essential works complete on water main in Loughrea

03 December 2021

Uisce Éireann, working in partnership with Galway County Council, has completed repairs to a watermain impacting the supply in Loughrea. Dedicated water service crews were mobilised at 8am and repairs were carried out. Whilst supply will have returned to many properties already, we recommend that customers allow two to three hours for normal supply to fully return.

Crews undertook the essential repairs as quickly and safely as possible with traffic management in place while works were underway. Uisce Éireann understands the inconvenience to customers when their water supply is affected, and traffic management is in place and we would like to thank the public for their patience and cooperation while this repair was undertaken.

Commenting on the repairs, Uisce Éireann’s Ronan Daly said: “Dedicated crews successfully carried out the repairs as quickly and efficiently as possible to minimise traffic disruption to the area and restore water to all customers. We understand the inconvenience unplanned outages can have on customers and we appreciate your patience as we worked to return the water supply as quickly and as safely as possible.

Previous Updates

Uisce Éireann is working in partnership with Galway County Council to safeguard the water supply for homes and businesses in Loughrea. The essential repair works are scheduled to take place on Friday 3 December between 8am and 5pm on Athenry Road, Loughrea.

These works are being delivered in adherence with current HSE and government COVID-19 advice. During these works, customers may experience disruptions to their water supply including outages and/or lower than normal water pressure.

To facilitate the safe delivery of the works, some traffic management will be in place including a stop/go traffic light system at the Westbridge junction. Local and emergency access will be maintained at all times.

When works are complete, it may take up to three hours for normal water supply to return to all customers. We would like to remind customers that it is important to continue to follow the HSE guidance on hand-washing.

Speaking about the works, Ronan Daly, Uisce Éireann said, “We understand that this type of work can be inconvenient and working in partnership with Galway County Council we will make every effort to minimise any disruption that these necessary works may cause. The delivery of leak repairs and maintenance is an essential part of what we do in order to safeguard the water supply to homes and businesses and ensure a safer, more sustainable water supply now and into the future.”

Uisce Éireann continues to work at this time, with our local authority partners, contractors and others to safeguard the health and well-being of staff and the public and to ensure the continuity of drinking water and wastewater services.
