Information below is relevant until further updates are provided here or on our Supply and Service Updates section
Uisce Éireann is advising customers supplied by the Allenwood Reservoir in Kildare that extremely low levels of treated water at the reservoir will impact supplies to local customers from this afternoon.
Extremely high demand on the network has led to water levels in the Allenwood Reservoir falling to critically low levels over the last seven days. As a result, operations at the reservoir will be halted at approximately 4pm this afternoon to allow levels to replenish.
Normal supply is expected to resume from approximately 7am tomorrow morning (Wednesday, 27 May). It may take up to 12 hours for normal supply to return to all areas.
Areas impacted will include Coill Dubh, Prosperous, Derrinturn, Kilmeage, Robertstown, Allenwood and surrounding areas.
Alternative Water Supply (AWS) will be provided at the following locations from approximately 5pm this evening, Tuesday, 26 May to 7pm tomorrow evening, Wednesday, 27 May at the following locations:
- Prosperous National School, Curryhill, Naas, Co. Kildare (parking bays along front of school).
- Aylmere Court, Kilmeage, Co. Kildare (near the Old Dispensary).
- R403 Allenwood, Co. Kildare (parking bays adjacent to 120 / 120X Bus Stop).
- Former Grand Canal Hotel, Robertstown, Co. Kildare (large gravelled area to the east of the hotel).
- St Conleth’s National School, Derrinturn, Co. Kildare (parking bays along front of school).
- The Village Arch Café, Coill Dubh, Co. Kildare (close to the archway).
Bottled water is being made available for vulnerable customers.
Uisce Éireann’s Eoghan Forristal has assured customers that every effort is being made to restore a full water supply as quickly as possible.
“These restrictions are necessary to allow water supplies to catch up with the increased levels of demand we are seeing. We thank customers for their support while we allow reservoir levels to replenish. We expect that normal supply will start returning to customers from approximately 7am Wednesday morning,” said Eoghan.
Typically, it takes two to three hours for normal supply to restore to all customers affected by an unplanned outage. However, it may take longer for normal supply to be restored to customers at the end of the network or on higher ground as the system recharges.
Customers are reminded to bring their own containers when drawing water from the tanker, and to boil the water before use as a precautionary measure.
