New year will bring a more secure water supply for Tuam

Information below is relevant until further updates are provided here or on our Supply and Service Updates section

It’s set to be a busy start to the new year on Tuam’s Dublin Road with Uisce Éireann crews on site from tomorrow (Tuesday, 6 January) as a programme of mains replacement begins.

The project will see the replacement of more than 350 metres of aging mains with new, modern pipes. The works will take place along the Dublin Road (R332) from Rinkippeen to the Garraun Park Junction.

Enda Mac Namara, Programme Manager with Uisce Éireann, said that customers in Tuam can look forward to a more secure and reliable supply of drinking water as a result of these works.

“The replacement of these water mains will improve the resilience of the network, eliminate existing leaks and reduce the amount of clean water lost into the ground,” said Enda.

“We would like to thank the local community for their support and patience in advance as we carry out these essential works.”

Farrans Construction is carrying out these works under Uisce Éireann’s National Leakage Reduction Programme.

Areas of work will be limited to short sections to minimise the impact to customers. Traffic management in the form of traffic lights will be in place. However, local and emergency traffic will be maintained at all times.

The works may also involve some short-term interruptions to the water supply for nearby customers. The project team will ensure that customers are given a minimum of 48 hours' notice prior to any planned interruption.

The Uisce Éireann Customer Contact Centre, open 24/7 on freephone 1800 278 278, is available to answer any queries. Further information is available on the homepage.

Uisce Éireann is responsible for delivering public drinking water and wastewater services for the people of Ireland. We are committed to enabling communities to thrive by continuously upgrading and developing critical infrastructure to support sustainable growth and development, providing safe drinking water, and enhancing the environment.
