Uisce Éireann has commenced a project to upgrade the water infrastructure in Limerick City which will support the development of essential new homes. The project is being carried out as part of Uisce Éireann’s Growth and Development Programme.
The works involve the installation of 1.7 kilometres of water mains at Corbally, R526 Raheen, and Roxborough Road to cater for the future growth and development of the wider area.
James Browne T.D., Minister for Housing, Local Government and Heritage, welcomed the commencement of these works.
“We welcome the commencement of this project that will support the development of much needed housing. Continued investment in public water services is essential to facilitating housing delivery and to the overall development of cities and towns throughout Ireland. The increased funding that we have allocated to Uisce Éireann for 2026 will accelerate the delivery of water infrastructure and support the development of new homes across the country.”
Minister of State for Older People and Housing Kieran O’Donnell TD followed, “Limerick is a growing city and water infrastructure must keep pace with that growth. As we continue to prioritise funding for infrastructure to support housing, I am pleased to see Uisce Éireann progress works to improve infrastructure in the area.”
Uisce Éireann’s Michael McManus welcomed the delivery of the works “This project will facilitate social and economic growth, including vital, planned residential development. The increase of the capacity of the existing water network will also deliver reliable, sustainable high-quality water services for the community”.
The works will be carried out on behalf of Uisce Éireann by Shareridge and are expected to be complete in summer 2026.
To safely and efficiently deliver these works, temporary traffic management is required. Local and emergency services access will be maintained at all times and advance signage will be in place.
