Information below is relevant until further updates are provided here or on our Supply and Service Updates section

More than 6,400 Uisce Éireann customers in Roscrea will welcome the news that the Roscrea Public Water Supply has been removed from the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) list of vulnerable water supplies.

Over €2 million has been invested in the upgrade of Glenbeha and Fanure Water Treatment Plants and reaffirms Uisce Éireann’s commitment to deliver a continued supply of safe and reliable water to local homes and businesses.

Julie Curtin, Programme Manager at Uisce Éireann, said: “We’re proud of the team effort that led to the successful completion of upgrade works at the Water Treatment Plants in Glenbeha and Fanure. We had the community in mind at every step of the project delivery and kept the water flowing throughout.

“With this project now complete, we can ensure the continued delivery of safe, clean drinking water to the people of Roscrea, enabling the local community to thrive.

“It’s great news that the completed project has supported the removal of the Roscrea supply from the EPA’s Remedial Action List (RAL). We would like to thank the local community for their support and patience while the work was underway.”

The project at Glenbeha Water Treatment Plant involved a major upgrade of the disinfection treatment processes on site and included electrical upgrades, and remote monitoring systems. The upgrade was delivered with a strong focus on sustainability, incorporating energy efficient solutions to minimise resource consumption. In addition, a full disinfection upgrade was recently completed at Fanure Water Treatment Plant to eliminate the risk of cryptosporidium.

Pat Duggan, Regional Drinking Water Compliance Manager at Uisce Éireann, said: “We are fully committed to identifying and addressing risks to drinking water quality. Our key focus remains the protection of public health through the provision of safe, clean, and secure water supplies for local communities. This critical upgrade ensures ongoing compliance with drinking water regulations and significantly reduces the risk of future water quality issues.”

Uisce Éireann is responsible for delivering public drinking water and wastewater services for the people of Ireland. We are committed to enabling communities to thrive by continuously upgrading and developing critical infrastructure to support sustainable growth and development, providing safe drinking water, and enhancing the environment.
