Investment ensures continued delivery of clean and safe water for Cahersiveen

More than 1,200 Uisce Éireann customers in Cahersiveen will welcome the news that the Cahersiveen Public Water Supply has been removed from the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) list of vulnerable water supplies.

A €1.1 million upgrade of the Cahersiveen Water Treatment Plant has reaffirmed Uisce Éireann’s commitment to deliver a continued supply of safe and reliable water to local homes and businesses. 

John Hickey, Programme Manager at Uisce Éireann, said: “It has been a privilege to deliver this critical project to benefit the local community and we’re proud of the team effort that led to the successful completion of the upgrade works at the Water Treatment Plant in Cahersiveen. 

“With this project now complete, we can ensure the continued delivery of safe, clean drinking water to homes and businesses in Cahersiveen enabling the community to thrive.

“It’s great news that the completed project has supported the removal of the Cahersiveen supply from the EPA’s Remedial Action List (RAL). We would like to thank the local community for their support and patience while the work was underway.” 

This project involved a major upgrade of the disinfection treatment processes on site.  Deirdre O’Loughlin, Regional Drinking Water Compliance Manager at Uisce Éireann, said: “We are fully committed to identifying and addressing risks to drinking water quality. Our key focus remains the protection of public health through the provision of safe, clean, and secure water supplies for local communities. This critical upgrade ensures ongoing compliance with drinking water regulations and significantly reduces the risk of future water quality issues.”
