Essential works to improve reliability of water supply in Allenwood progressing

Uisce Éireann is advising customers in Allenwood and surrounding areas of a planned water supply interruption on Tuesday, 20 October, as essential improvement works continue on the local water network.

Customers may experience water supply disruptions from 9.00am to 6.00pm in Allenwood, Lullymore, Derrinturn, Bluetown and surrounding areas in Co Kildare.

The planned outage is required to enable critical works that will improve the resilience of the local water network, reduce the risk of future bursts and unplanned outages, and help provide a more reliable water supply for homes, businesses and the wider community.

Supply is expected to be restored from 6.00pm on Tuesday evening, however, it may take longer for normal supply to be restored to customers at the end of the network or on higher ground as the system recharges.

Nicola Butler, Uisce Éireann, said, “We understand the frustration that planned outages can cause for our customers, and we wish to assure impacted customers that all efforts will be made to complete the works and restore full supply as soon as possible.” 

This project is one example of how Uisce Éireann works every day to reduce leaks. With more than 65,000 km of underground pipes nationally- enough to circle the earth one and a half times - fixing leaks can be complicated. Many are hidden, but we are making progress: National leakage is now at its lowest level ever, reduced from 49% in 2014 to 36% today.
