Crews working to restore water supply following large burst impacting Dublin 24

Information below is relevant until further updates are provided here or on our Supply and Service Updates section.

Uisce Éireann is working with South Dublin County Council to restore the water supply as quickly as possible to impacted customers in Firhouse and surrounding areas in Dublin 24 following a large burst to a high-pressure water main.

Expert water services crews have been dispatched to find and fix the burst and every effort is being made to reduce the impact on customers and restore water supply as quickly as possible.

Repair works are progressing and are estimated to be completed later this afternoon, however, it may take a number of hours following repairs for normal water supply to return to all customers due to the size of the network impacted, especially for those on higher ground or at the end of the network.

As per best practice, most homes and businesses will have on-site water storage to provide a backup source of water for sanitation purposes.

Stephen Burke, Regional Operations Manager with Uisce Éireann, commented: “The repairs are being conducted as quickly and as efficiently as possible to minimise disruption and restore the water supply to homes and businesses. We are appealing to customers to continue to conserve water where possible to help maintain reservoir levels. Turning off the tap while brushing your teeth and shaving can save up to 6 litres of water per minute. Taking a shower instead of a bath or using a watering can rather than a hose when gardening can also make a big difference in water use. For more water conservation advice, please visit our Conservation page."

Stephen acknowledged the inconvenience to impacted customers adding: “We understand the inconvenience an unplanned outage can have on our customers and appreciate your patience as we work to return normal water supply as quickly as possible.”
