Water supply returning to customers supplied by Caragh Lake Water Treatment Plant
Information below is relevant until further updates are provided here or on our Supply and Service Updates section
Water supply is returning to normal for customers this morning following an operational issue at Caragh Lake Water Treatment Plant. Uisce Éireann crews worked until late last night restoring operations and the network is now fully recharging. Customers in Gurrane, Sunhill and surrounding areas can expect their normal supply to return within the next few hours as the network continues to recharge.
Uisce Éireann’s Eoin O’Connell thanked customers for their patience and explained that it can take time for the network to fully recover after an unplanned outage. “Following any interruption, it takes a period of time for the network to refill, particularly for customers in higher or more remote areas at the end of the network. The plant is now fully operational, and supplies are steadily returning,” said Eoin.
The Alternative Water supplies which were put in place at Glounaguillagh National School have now been removed.

Previous Updates
Uisce Éireann is working to restore normal water supply to homes and businesses in Sunhill following operational issues at Caragh Lake Water Treatment Plant. This will result in no water or low water pressure for customers in Gurrane, Sunhill and surrounding areas. Alternative water supplies are available at Glounaguillagh National School. Customers are reminded to use their own containers when taking water from the tanker and to boil water before consumption as a precautionary measure, as per advice from the Health Service Executive.
Uisce Éireann’s Eoin O’Connell has assured customers that every effort is being made to restore a full water supply as quickly as possible. “We understand the inconvenience of an unplanned outage, and we thank customers for their support while normal supply is being restored.” Supply is expected to be restored by 8am, Wednesday, 10 June.
Typically, it takes three to four hours following repairs for normal supply to restore to all customers affected by an unplanned outage. However, it may take longer for normal supply to be restored to customers at the end of the network or on higher ground as the system recharges. Customers can check their supply zone in advance by visiting the Supply and Services section of the website. For updates, please visit the Water Supply Updates section of the website: KER00113561.
