Crews are progressing critical water infrastructure upgrade works in Cahir

Planned overnight water outage required to facilitate connections

Uisce Éireann is making steady progress to upgrade the water network in the Cahir Town. These works will reduce leakage and provide a more reliable water supply to local homes and businesses.

The works involve the replacement of almost 1km of aged cast iron water mains with new modern pipes, with over 220m replaced so far.

Works are currently taking place near the Cahir House Hotel in the town square and will move along Castle Street towards Cahir Castle.

To facilitate a new connection as part of these upgrade works, a planned outage is required. Customers in Old Church Street, Church Street, The Square, Ardfinnan Road, Castle Street, The Mall, Abbey Street, Mitchellstown Road, Barrack Street, Bengurragh housing estate, Woodville housing estate, Avondale housing estate and the surrounding areas of Cahir, may experience a temporary disruption to their supply from 11pm on Wednesday, 6 May to 4am on Thursday, 7 May.

Uisce Éireann’s Dave Murphy said, “We understand the inconvenience caused by an interruption to supply. Every effort will be made to limit the impact of these essential works, and we would like to thank the community in advance for their patience and co-operation.

“Following the completion of the works, it can take two to three hours for normal water supply to return to customers as water refills the network, particularly for those properties on higher ground or at the end of the network.”
