Boil Water Notice issued to protect the health of customers supplied by South Roscommon Killeglen Public Water Supply Scheme
11 October 2026
Information below is relevant until further updates are provided here or on our Supply and Service Updates section
Customers in parts of South Roscommon, must boil their water before using it for drinking, food preparation and brushing teeth until further notice. This is an essential measure introduced to protect public health following an issue with the treatment process at the local Killeglan Water Treatment Plant.
The Boil Water Notice applies to 7,644 consumers who are served by Killeglan Water Treatment Plant.
Areas affected by the Boil Water Notice include Brideswell, Corrowduff, Taughmaconnell, Dysart, Moore, Parkmore, Kilgarve, Ballydanagan, and the outskirts of Ballinasloe town in County Roscommon. Group water schemes connected to this supply are also affected.
The Boil Water Notice will remain in place while Uisce Éireann works with the HSE to ensure the water is safe to drink.
Uisce Éireann recognises that this latest issue comes after a mechanical issue at the plant which impacted water supplies to homes and businesses.
We understand how frustrating and worrying it will be for people to now face a Boil Water Notice following those earlier interruptions. Our teams are working to restore normal water quality and have the notice lifted as quickly and safely as possible.
People can check whether their property is affected by visiting the Water Quality section of water.ie and entering their Eircode, or by contacting Uisce Éireann’s customer care team, available 24/7, on 1800 278 278.
A map of the affected area is available on the Supply and Service section of water.ie.
Ger Grealy, Uisce Éireann, said: “We know how important a safe and reliable water supply is to everyday life, and we understand how difficult this latest disruption will be for households, businesses and the wider community in South Roscommon.
“People in the area have already experienced interruptions to their water supply, and we are very conscious that this Boil Water Notice creates further inconvenience and concern.
“Our teams are working to resolve the issue and lift the notice as quickly and safely as possible. We sincerely thank everyone in the community for their patience and cooperation.”
Uisce Éireann's drinking water standards are among the strictest in Europe and include significant safety margins. Where a potential risk to water quality is identified through Uisce Éireann's testing and monitoring programme, the HSE is consulted and precautionary notices may be issued to protect public health.
