Ballinamuck Water Treatment Plant upgrade to deliver long-term benefits for Dungarvan communities

Planned water supply interruption to facilitate works which may impact on some customers in Dungarvan, Abbeyside and An Rinn

Information below is relevant until further updates are provided here or on our Supply and Service Updates section

Uisce Éireann is carrying out essential works on the water network at the Ballinamuck Water Treatment Plant as part of construction upgrades associated with the new treatment plant. This project represents a €29.5 million investment that will deliver long-term benefits for communities in Dungarvan and the surrounding areas.

To facilitate these works, a temporary planned water supply interruption will take place in Dungarvan and Abbeyside from 6pm on Monday, 9 November until 9am on Tuesday morning, 10 November.

In addition, localised night-time restrictions will be required in the Abbeyside, Duckspool, Ballinroad and Ballinacourty areas to support the recovery of the water supply network. These restrictions are expected to take place between 11pm and 7am, over three nights, from Tuesday, 10 November to Thursday, 12 November.

Some customers in An Rinn may also experience low pressure or supply interruptions from approx. 11pm on Monday, 9 November to 8am on Tuesday, 10 November, due to low reservoir levels.

These temporary interruptions are required to safely complete network connections. Uisce Éireann acknowledges the impact to customers and thanks them for their patience.

Following restoration, it can take two to three hours for normal water pressure to return as the network recharges. Customers on higher ground or at the end of the network may experience longer delays. Some customers may also experience temporary discolouration of water as supply returns. Customers experiencing discoloured water are advised to run the cold kitchen tap for several minutes until it runs clear. If the water does not return to a clear colour, customers are advised not to drink it as a precaution and to contact Uisce Éireann using the details below.

Talking about the project Conor Williams, Programme Manager with Uisce Éireann said: “The new Ballinamuck Water Treatment Plant will deliver a more resilient water supply that will meet the needs of the region now and into the future, while supporting public health, and sustainable growth.”

We would like to thank the local community for their support and patience during this planned interruption.”

The Ballinamuck Water Treatment Plant project will provide a more robust and resilient drinking water supply for local communities. Once complete, the new plant will improve drinking water quality, strengthen security of supply and support future growth and development across Dungarvan and the surrounding areas.
