Lahinch and Ennistymon communities invited to have their say on proposed wastewater improvements
Uisce Éireann is inviting the communities of Lahinch and Ennistymon to have their say on proposals for new wastewater infrastructure that will improve wastewater treatment, support better water quality, protect the environment and provide capacity for the future growth and development of both communities.
This is the second non-statutory public consultation on the proposed project, giving residents, businesses, community groups and other stakeholders a further opportunity to learn more about the latest proposals, ask questions and share their views.
As part of the consultation, Uisce Éireann will hold a public information event on Thursday, 19 November, from 2pm to 7pm at The Orchard Suite, The Falls Hotel, Ennistymon. The project team will be available throughout the event to talk people through the proposals, answer questions and listen to feedback.
Speaking about the project, Paul Fallon, Senior Programme Manager with Uisce Éireann, said: “We know how important this project is for Lahinch and Ennistymon and recognise that people have questions and different views about the proposals.
“This consultation is an important opportunity for people to meet the project team, ask questions and share their views. Local knowledge and feedback are important as we continue to develop the project, and we look forward to listening to the community and continuing an open and constructive conversation.”
The proposed project would replace the existing wastewater treatment plants in Lahinch and Ennistymon with a new combined wastewater treatment plant and associated infrastructure serving both communities.
The existing plants date from 1971 and 1937 respectively and are overloaded and do not meet required treatment standards. The proposed investment will support better water quality, help protect the local environment and provide greater capacity for Lahinch and Ennistymon into the future.
The project is currently progressing through site selection and detailed design. Further information about the project, consultation and how to provide feedback is available at www.water.ie/lahinch-ennistymon-wwtp or by emailing LahinchEnnistymon@water.ie
