Ardfinnan Water Outage: Repair completed and water supply returning to customers
Uisce Éireann has completed repairs to the major burst on the trunk watermain supplying Ardfinnan and surrounding areas, and water is now returning to customers.
The burst occurred on the trunk watermain carrying water from Goatenbridge Water Treatment Plant. Our crews have completed the complex repair, and the network is now recharging.
Anthony Phelan, Uisce Éireann, said: “We understand how disruptive an unexpected water outage can be for the community and thank customers for their patience while our crews carried out these repairs. The repair is now complete, and water is returning across the network. However, it will take time for supplies to fully return to all customers.”
Following a significant outage, it can typically take two to three hours for the network to recharge and for normal water supply to fully return. This may take longer for customers on higher ground or at the end of the network.
Areas affected by the outage included Goatenbridge, Poulatar, Newcastle, Ballybacon, Grange, Ardfinnan, Jamestown, Marlfield, Neddens, Loughryan, Loughlohery, Loughtally, Derrygrath, Newchapel, Rathkeevin, Inishlounaght, Nicholastown, Knockloffty, Castlegrace, Cranna and surrounding areas.
Supporting customers, especially those who may be more vulnerable during service interruptions, remains a priority. Registered vulnerable customers receive direct communications from Uisce Éireann for planned and unplanned outages lasting more than four hours.

Anthony Phelan, Uisce Éireann, said: "We understand how inconvenient an unexpected water outage can be for the community. Our main priority is fixing this burst and returning a normal supply to all our customers. We really appreciate everyone in the community bearing with us while our crews get water back to homes and businesses."
Repairs are expected to be completed by later this afternoon. Once repairs have been completed, water supplies will return gradually over the following hours and into this evening. Customers in higher-lying areas or at the ends of the network may experience a longer wait while the water network refills.

Supporting customers, especially those who may be more vulnerable during service interruptions, remains a priority. Registered vulnerable customers receive direct communications from Uisce Éireann for planned and unplanned outages lasting more than four hours. We are also working with local schools to ensure they can remain opened.
Treated water reservoirs at Jamestown and Edenmore are full, so customers they supply are currently unaffected. However, the location of the burst means they will not be replenished until the repair is complete and water is flowing again. We ask all customers across the scheme to use only the water they need to protect supplies for essential use while repairs continue.
