Find these water saving devices at a local DIY store or garden centre. You can contact a plumber for advice on what devices are suited to your home.

Taps and showers

Some showers use a lot of water, particularly power showers. The easiest way to save water is by spending less time showering. A shower timer helps calculate and reduce the time you spend in the shower.

An aerator tap or showerhead uses less water because it mixes air with the water stream. That makes it feel like you’re getting the same flow while actually using less water.

Toilets

A toilet cistern bag sits in the water cistern. You fill it with water and it expands, taking up space in the tank. Every time you flush the toilet, it is uses much less water.

Dual flushing systems let you choose to use less water or full flush volume. Most modern toilets are fitted with a dual flush system but they can also be added to existing systems.

Water butt outside in the garden

Water butts

Water butts are plastic containers that store rainwater collected from your rooftop. They can easily be attached to your rainwater drainage system.

The rain is redirected through the downpipes and stored in a water butt until you need it. It's a great source for watering your garden.
