Tully Estate Water Mains Replacement
Uisce Éireann replaced problematic water mains in Tully Estate, Monaghan Town which provided a more reliable water supply, reduced high levels of leakage and improved water quality.
The works involved the replacement of over 700 metres of aged cast iron water mains with new modern pipes. The programme which replaced the water mains in Tully Estate commenced in October 2024. These works carried out as part of Uisce Éireann’s National Leakage Reduction Programme.
The section of works took place in the Tully Estate and on the junction of the R162 Glen Road.
The works also involved laying new water service connections from the public water main in the road to customers’ property boundaries and connected it to the customers’ water supply.
The works were carried out on behalf of Uisce Éireann by Farrans Construction and were completed by May 2025.

What were the benefits of the works?
The benefits of the service works included:
• Reliable Water Supply - Replaced the old water mains with new water mains and service connections which reduced the instances of bursts and water outages and ensured a reliable supply of water to customers in the area
• Reduced Leaks - Replacement of old water mains and service connections in poor condition which eliminated existing leaks and reduced the amount of clean drinking water lost into the ground.
• Improved Water Quality - Removed existing old cast iron and lead from the water network and replaced them with new modern pipes to reduce the risk of contamination.
• Improved Operation and Maintenance - These works delivered efficiencies including cost savings by providing improved water network operation that requires less maintenance in the future.
