St. Johnston Wastewater Network Upgrade
Uisce Éireann to commence upgrades to the wastewater network in St. Johnston, Co Donegal.
Uisce Éireann is commencing works to construct a new pumping station and rising main to serve St. Johnston, Co Donegal. Farrans Construction will deliver the works on behalf of Uisce Éireann. The current wastewater infrastructure in the village is inadequate and upgrades are required to ensure wastewater discharges meet environmental compliance regulations. Once completed, this €3.4 million project will improve water quality in the Johnston River and benefit homes and businesses in the surrounding area.
What is involved in this project?
As part of the project, Uisce Éireann will construction:
- A new wastewater pumping station
- A new rising main
- Rehabilitation of the gravity sewer
What are the benefits of this project?
The works carried out as part of this project will:
- Improve the performance level of the wastewater network.
- Remove untreated discharges into the Johnston River.
- Ensure environmental compliance with national and EU wastewater regulations.

What are the next steps?
- Works to construct the new pumping station, gravity and rising main will commence in August 2025.
- The project is due for completion in early 2027.
Further information
A new entrance and footpath will be constructed as part of the works, The rising main will exit the site and connect into the existing gravity pipeline in main street.
Traffic management will be in place for the duration of these works. We will endeavour to engage directly with impacted stakeholders as the project progresses.
