Pluck, Manorcunningham Water Mains Replacement
National Leakage Reduction Programme
Uisce Éireann, in partnership with Donegal County Council carried out leakage reduction works in Pluck, Manorcunningham, which provided a more reliable water supply and reduced high levels of leakage.
The works involved the replacement of over 3000 Meters of problematic water mains with new modern pipes. The programme replaced the water mains in Pluck, Manorcunningham. These works were carried out as part of Uisce Éireann's National Leakage Reduction Programme.
The section of works took place between the L1154 and L1294 from Pluck through Manorcunningham up to Errity.
The works also involved laying new water service connections from the public water main in the road to customers' property boundaries and connecting it to the customers' water supply.
The works were carried out on behalf of Uisce Éireann by Farrans Construction and were completed by Autumn 2024.
What were the benefits of the works?
The benefits of the leakage reduction works included:
- Reliable Water Supply - Replaced the old water mains with new water mains and service connections which reduced the instances of bursts and water outages and ensured a reliable supply of water to customers in the area
- Reduced Leaks - Replacement of old water mains and service connections in poor condition which eliminated existing leaks and reduced the amount of clean drinking water lost into the ground.
- Improved Water Quality - Removed existing old cast iron and lead from the water network and replaced them with new modern pipes to reduce the risk of contamination.
- Improved Operation and Maintenance - These works delivered efficiencies including cost savings by providing improved water network operation that requires less maintenance in the future.
