Old Doolough Water Mains Replacement

Uisce Éireann is commencing leakage reduction works in Mullagh, Co Clare, providing a more reliable water supply and reducing high levels of leakage. 

The works involve the replacement of over 6.3km of old and damaged water mains with new modern pipes. The programme to replace the water mains along Cloonlaheen West, and Doonogan, Mullagh, will commence mid-November 2025.  These works will be carried out as part of Uisce Éireann’s National Leakage Reduction Programme.

The works will be carried out in a phased approach and will take place along L-2116 Cloonlaheen West, Mullagh and L-2098 Doonogan, Mullagh, Co Clare.

Works involved laying new water service connections from the public water main in the road to customers’ property boundaries and connected it to the customers’ water supply. 

The works will be carried out on behalf of Uisce Éireann by Ward and Burke with completion expected in July 2026.

The benefits of the leakage reduction works include:

• A Reliable Water Supply – Replacement of water mains and service connections will reduce the instances of bursts and water outages and will ensure a reliable supply of water to customers and local businesses in the area.
• Reduced Leaks – Replacement of water mains and service connections will eliminate existing leaks and reduce the amount of clean drinking water lost into the ground.
• Improved Operation and Maintenance – These works will deliver cost savings by providing improved water network operation that will require less maintenance in the future.
   

Areas of work continue to be limited to short sections and carried out in two phases to minimise impact on customers. Phase one of these works are now complete, and crews are moving onto the second phase of works, which involves a road closure along L-2098 Doonogan, Mullagh. A signposted diversion will be in place. Local and emergency traffic will always be maintained.

The second road closure along L-2098 Doonogan, Mullagh will be in affect from 19 January until 27 February 2026.

The works may involve some short-term water interruptions, and the project team will ensure that customers are given a minimum of 48 hours’ notice prior to any planned water interruptions.

We understand that this type of work can be inconvenient and works crews will make every effort to minimise any disruption these necessary works cause.
