Naul Wastewater Treatment Plant Upgrade

Uisce Éireann has submitted a planning application for the upgrade of a wastewater treatment plant in The Naul Village, Co. Dublin.

The project will significantly improve the quality of treated effluent discharges to safeguard water quality, provide additional wastewater capacity and ensure the WWTP is compliant with regulatory discharge limits.

The €7 million investment will service a population equivalent of 1,300.

What does this project involve?

  • Increase Population Equivalent (PE) treatment capacity to 1300
  • Provision of onsite stormwater storage
  • Provision of a new inlet works including inlet flume, fine screening, manual bypass screening, and flow control chamber
  • Installation of a new aeration tank with fine bubble diffused aeration (FBDA) system
  • Construction of new final settlement tanks (FSTs) with scum removal system;
  • Installation of new return activated sludge (RAS) and waste activated sludge (WAS) pumps
  • Installation of a new picket fence thickener (PFT) for sludge thickening and holding
  • Provision of a new passive odour control system (OCS)

  • Significantly improve the quality of treated effluent discharges to the River Devlin to safeguard water quality in the river
  • Ensure the WWTP is compliant with regulatory discharge limits (provide appropriate treatment)
  • Provide additional wastewater treatment capacity to enable population growth in the Naul area

What are the next steps?

The project is currently in the planning stage. If planning is approved Uisce Éireann expects works to take 24 months to complete.
