Ballyvolane Water and Wastewater Project

Uisce Éireann Growth and Development Programme

Uisce Éireann, in partnership with Cork City Council is installing new water and wastewater infrastructure in Ballyvolane, Cork to support future growth and development in the area. 

Uisce Éireann in partnership with Cork City Council is progressing works to install new water and wastewater infrastructure to cater for the future growth and development of the Ballyvolane area of Cork City. These works are being carried out as part of Uisce Éireann's Growth and Development Programme.

The construction of new watermains, new wastewater network, and associated wastewater pumping station, in addition to the upgrade of existing aged watermains, will ensure required capacity of the water and wastewater infrastructure to support future development in the area.

The works are being carried out on behalf of Uisce Éireann by Geda Construction Ltd. and are expected to be completed in Q3 2024.

What does the project involve?

This improvement project is being delivered in phases as follows:

Phase 1: Construction of a wastewater pumping station on Ballyhooly Road commenced January 2022. The pumping station is expected to be commissioned in Q3 2024.

Phase 2: Construction of approximately 1.5km of watermains on Lower Dublin Hill Road to the junction with Ballyhooly Road.

Phase 3: The upgrade of over 200m of existing water main on Ballyhooly Road and construction of approximately 2.6km of wastewater rising mains on Ballyhooly Road and North Ring Road to the Old Youghal Road junction.

Current works and next steps

Commissioning of the pumping station is expected in Q3 2024.

Once complete, the new water and wastewater network and pumping station will facilitate future development in the Ballyvolane area. It will support social and economic growth through the provision of water and wastewater services for new homes and businesses.
