Growth and Development Programme - Merlin Park Pumping Station Upgrade
Uisce Éireann is constructing new wastewater infrastructure in Galway City to support future growth and development in the area.
The works involve the upgrade of the existing Wastewater Pumping Station at Merlin Park, and the construction of a new underground Wastewater Storage Tank of 950m3 hydraulic capacity.
These works are being carried out as part of Uisce Éireann’s Growth and Development Programme and construction is set to begin in early 2026.
The works will be carried out at the site of the existing Merlin Park Wastewater Pumping Station on the Dublin Road.
This project is being delivered to support existing and future developments within the community. It will improve the capacity of the existing wastewater network in the area, improving performance and reducing demands on the current network.
The works will be carried out on behalf of Uisce Éireann by GMC Utilities Group and are expected to be completed by Autumn 2027.

- Improving water quality – The project will reduce the risk of sewer flooding and improve water quality in the Galway Bay SAC.
Will customers be affected by the works?
Site clearance works will begin in the coming weeks to prepare the site for the construction phase. Standard working hours are 8am to 6pm Monday to Friday and 9am to 1pm on Saturday.
We understand that this type of work can be inconvenient and work crews will make every effort to minimise any disruption these necessary works cause.
What are the next steps?
This project is currently at Construction phase with the project expected to complete by late 2027.
