Growth and Development Programme - Balheary Road Wastewater Network Extension

Uisce Éireann is installing new wastewater infrastructure at Balheary Road to support future growth and development in Swords.

The works involve the installation of over 360m of sewer pipeline to cater for the future growth and development of the wider Swords area. These works are being carried out as part of Uisce Éireann’s Growth and Development Programme and are expected to commence in mid-January 2026.

The section of works will take place from the Balheary Rd/Castlegrange Green junction to the Estuary Roundabout including works in the R125, and within Balheary Park.

The works will be carried out on behalf of Uisce Éireann by GMC Utilities and are expected to be completed by summer 2026.

This project is being delivered to support existing and future developments within the community. It will improve the capacity of the existing wastewater network in the area, improving performance and reducing demands on the current network.

A section of the planned works overlaps with Fingal County Council’s R132 Road Connectivity Project which proposes to convert the Estuary roundabout to a signalised junction. Following agreement between Fingal County Council and Uisce Éireann, the eastern section of the sewerage works will be constructed and delivered by Fingal County Council as part of the R132 Connectivity works.

Traffic Management Updates

From Monday 09 February, the R125 Balheary Road will be closed Eastbound from the junction with Castlegrange Green to the Estuary Roundabout.

Eastbound traffic will be diverted via R125 Watery Lane, Bridge Street, R836 Main Street, R106 Malahide Road and onto R132 to meet the Estuary Roundabout. Local and emergency access will be maintained.

Advance signage will be in place to advise motorists. We anticipate this traffic management system to be in place for a period of 6 weeks.
Standard working hours are 7AM to 7PM Monday to Saturday.

Uisce Éireann regrets any inconvenience that the delivery of these necessary wastewater network improvement works may cause.
